The Indus School sixth grade spent May 12-13 in the Twin Cities visiting various sites to learn about Minnesota history.

They stopped first at the North West Company Fur Trade Post in Pine City. While there, they learned about life in a fur trade camp and the grueling plight of the voyageurs.

They then made their way to the Wabasha Street Caves in St. Paul. They quickly realized that there was more history around them than they knew. The caves were home to a number of businesses, a hide-out for St. Paul gangsters, and a playground for the youth of the area.

Thursday night was spent eating pizza and swimming in the hotel pool. The eight students and their chaperones visited the Minnesota History Center and Fort Snelling on Friday before heading home.

The students stated there truly wasn’t enough time to see everything that they wanted to, but it was a good start.
