Indus School celebrated the passing of kindergarten to first grade and preschool “Bumble Bees” to kindergarten in a graduation and “step up” ceremony May 24.
Instructor Miranda Gustafson conducted the ceremony, which included two welcome songs performed by the children, “Days of the Week” and “Macarena Months.”
Gustafson then gave out individual awards to each child, telling a bit about each one’s strengths: Quinn Baxter, the “entertainer,” received a singing microphone; Ruby Olson, the “organized one,” received an organizer kit with a calculator; Adlyn Hazelton, the “creative one,” received a set of colored pencils; Karl Erickson, the “mannerly one,” was given a memory book; Dwain Harness, known as the “builder,” got a Lego set; and James Bjork, a “willing assistant,” received a set of work gloves.
The youngsters showed off what they had learned about geography by singing two songs about “Oceans” and “Continents.” Next, kindergartener Dwain Harness demonstrated his reading skills by reading a book, “Just Like Daddy,” for the audience.
Each child then was interviewed by Gustafson, telling what they would miss about this year’s class. This was followed by “The Lollipop Tree” song, in honor of former administrative secretary Karen Anderson.
Finally, there was a presentation of a diploma to Dwain Harness and “Kindergarten Hopes and Dreams.”
Cake and beverages were served after the ceremony, celebrating the occasion. Assistants included school staff Debbie Westover and Heather Brown, and school board member, Terri Rud.
