Teen Enterprise, a camp for regional high school students looking to learn more about entrepreneurship, is planned for Aug. 15-19 at Rainy River Community College.
The camp, sponsored by the University of Minnesota Duluth Center for Economic Development, challenges teens to come up with a business plan for a start-up at the end of the program.
UMD Teen Enterprise aims to teach students to recognize characteristics and practices of successful entrepreneurs; evaluate an entrepreneurial idea based on products, customers and competitors; demonstrate business-planning skills for venture start-up, marketing, financing, management and ethical decision-making.
The week will include business plan development, research, local business field trip, entrepreneurial activities, local Small Business Development Center visit, and business plan presentations.
The camp will run 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday and from 8 to noon Friday.
Cost is $100, with breakfast and lunch included. Limited scholarships are available. Space is limited.
“We have gotten a generous donation from Boise so that the fee can be waived for the students and we won’t turn any one away because they may not be able to pay,” stated business consultant Jenny Herman of the Small Business Development Center.
