Shelana Ysen, of International Falls, was one of five Bemidji State University filmmakers who entered short films into the Minnesota Student Filmmakers Contest at the university’s Headwaters Film Festival, which took place March 31-April 1.
The two-minute film, “Don’t be a Bystander,” was directed by Ysen, a senior at BSU, majoring in, mass communication.
BSU’s Headwaters Film Festival is an entirely student-run endeavor. Nearly 30 students worked to produce this year’s festival, which included screenings of international student films, a Skype session with Jamie Holt, producer of Lady Gaga’s video for the Academy Award-nominated single “’Til It Happens To You,” screenings of 2015 winners from NASA’s CineSpace film competition, and feature films each night.
