DARE class

The sixth grade DARE class celebrates their accomplishment with teacher Sara Wendt and Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office Officer James Kennedy.

Indus School sixth graders recently completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program under the direction of Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office Officer James Kennedy.

Students participated in classroom sessions to learn about life skills that will help them resist drugs, gangs and violence.

They also wrote essays explaining what they learned from the classroom sessions, how they had used the decision making model, and how they are going to make safe and responsible choices.

Three students came out on top with their essays — Kyle Schiro placed first, Corinne Dahl second, and Jonah Mathis third. Each received a different size of stuffed DARE mascot.

Every student received a certificate, t-shirt, and bag of goodies recognizing their completion of the DARE program. They also enjoyed a pizza party in the commons after the recognition ceremony.
