Locals among Mankato grads

Minnesota State University, Mankato had more than 1,500 students graduate during spring/summer commencement exercises May 5 at Bresnan Arena at the Taylor Center on the Minnesota State Mankato campus.

International Falls students among the graduates included, Nicholas Esler, bachelor of science in engineering, general engineering, Ben Kucera, bachelor of science, Recreation, Parks and Leisure Service; and Shailynn Shipley, bachelor of science, nursing.

Students awarded BSU scholarships

Over 100 incoming Bemidji State University students were awarded $1,000 Academic Achievement Scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Mitchell Nelson, of Big Falls, a freshman in computer science, was among the more than 30 percent of all new entering students who receive scholarships.

BSU will present more than $2.3 million in academic, talent, and leadership scholarships this year. The awards are made possible through donations to the BSU Foundation, the Alumni Association, and other organizations that specify funds for such causes.

Academic Achievement Scholarships are awarded to students who graduate in the top 30 percent of their class with an ACT score of at least 24.

Incoming students awarded scholarships

Local students have accepted the $1,000 Student Success Scholarship from Bemidji State University for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Recipients are Hannah Heibel, Ranier, a freshman majoring in exercise science, and Kelly Blair, International Falls, a junior majoring in elementary education.

More than 30 percent of all new entering students receive scholarships.
