The International Falls School Board is expected to vote Thursday to hire an elementary principal at a special board meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon at the Falls High School cafeteria. An agenda is considered tentative until the government body begins the meeting and makes additions or deletions to the proposed agenda.

The five candidates interviewed Monday by the board’s interview committee are Stephanie Amberg, David Gooch, Melissa Tate, and the two previous final candidates — Kevin Grover and Kristine Lamb.

Previous Falls and West End Elementary School principal Jerry Hilfer retired June 30. The board had planned to hire a new principal by July 1.

The position was re-posted in July after the board came out with several split 3-3 votes between the hire of Grover and Lamb at meetings since June. In a 3-2 vote, the board agreed to again seek candidates.

The board was split between hiring an in-house candidate, Grover, and an out-of-town candidate, Lamb. Grover is the Falls dean of students and Lamb is a K-12 music teacher at Cromwell-Wright Public Schools in Carlton County.

The board is also expected to vote Thursday on the hire of a special education teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Special education teacher Andy Fougner resigned from the district last month and withdrew his application for the elementary principal position. He was one of the three final candidates who also received 3-3 split votes by the school board.

The board is scheduled to authorize the district to go ahead with a short-term cash flow loan. If approved, Superintendent Nordy Nelson is expected to borrow funds for the district for cash-flow purposes from PMA Financial in an amount not to exceed $500,000.
