The 2012 Indus Homecoming Week took place Sept. 24-28 with various activities throughout the week, including an away cross country team meet and two home volleyball games for the Lady Trojans, one of which was designated “Parents’ Night.”

Spirit Week dress up days included Spirit Day, Opposite Day, Teacher Look-alike Day, Celebrity Day, and Duct Tape Day.

Coronation took place Sept. 24 in the gym with the following students representing their classes: sophomores — Emily Almquist, Samantha Hervey, Alexandra Knoff, Nathan Lewis, Ted Nelson, Anson Payne; juniors — Licia Cress, Sofia Olesen, Amber Zoupas, Devon Grover, Damien Reed, Bobby Whitfield; seniors — Molly Baldwin, Maria Lewis, Austin Hanson, Wyatt Tessier, DaCotah Wolden.

Volleyball and cross country teams were introduced by their coaches and games led by the sophomores provided afternoon fun.

The following were crowned as Homecoming royalty: sophomore attendants Emily Almquist and Nathan Lewis, junior princess Licia Cress, junior prince Damien Reed, senior queen Molly Baldwin and senior king Wyatt Tessier.

The girls’ volleyball teams played Cass Lake in the gym Monday evening and parents of both volleyball players and cross country team members were recognized. Cake and beverages were provided in the commons.

The Lady Trojans volleyball teams played Laporte in another home game Thursday. The volleyball girls also sponsored a DIG PINK NIGHT to raise money to fight breast cancer. Anyone wearing pink to the game was admitted free, and about $180 was raised by selling pink refreshments and taking donations.

Even though the teams haven’t been winning many games, volleyball coaches Kim Brown and Lorraine Vollmer believe that it makes a difference that the teams are young. However, they feel team members have been learning the skills and getting better and better with each game. At a recent Hill City tournament, Brown noted that the team faced some stiff competition, but “the girls stepped up and played some good volleyball.” Vollmer concurs, saying, “I give the girls huge kudos for keeping their spirits up and having fun... it’s hard and intimidating with the other teams being so much bigger and older... but... it’s more important to try to win than it is to win.”

The cross country team, coached by Tom Van Damme, has been steadily building strength and performing well at meets this fall.

They were off to Hibbing Sept. 27. Team members include Haley Grover, Samantha Hervey, Maria Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Ted Nelson, Holger Olesen and Kyle Schiro.

Friday, Indus had its Homecoming dance and activity night. Students participated in activities such as playing Wii, board games, dancing and an open gym. About 40 students enjoyed the night which started right after school and went into the evening hours.
