Indus School Report
On March 29, Indus School hosted grandparents of Indus students who spent the school day with their grandchild, getting a free lunch and listening to the student bluegrass group, Ditchgrade. After lunch, the grandparents enjoyed science fair displays, browsed through the Scholastic Book Fair, or spent time in their grandchild’s classroom.
All of the elementary classes also made presentations to the grandparents in the Commons. Kindergarten students sang a couple of selections from their Morning Meeting Routine such as “Macarena Months” (English and Spanish versions) and the (Adam’s Family) “Days of the Week” song. First graders gave a poem about grandparents. Second and third grade students performed a play called “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” and fourth graders Sierra Rivard and Emma Morgan gave a brief description of their science projects.
Students in fifth grade did a musical skit, and sixth grader Kerry Ann Meyers played her clarinet as her class’s contribution.
In the evening, the public was invited to the book fair and the annual science fair created by students in grades 5-8. The book fair, which was open all week, had a luau theme, so a “luau” supper of shredded pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and pineapple was served as a fundraiser for students going on the educational trip to Europe in June. Finally, the Student Council served Shamrock Shakes and presented a full program of talent at a Variety Show that had 17 acts to entertain everyone.
Participants in the show received school store coupons and lots of applause — Dani Erickson, Emma Morgan, Natalie Sorum, Maggie Morgan, Sofia Olesen, Holger Olesen, Stevie Martineau, RogAnne Wolden, Stephanie Stith, Eithne Sutton, Maria Lewis, Annie Schiro, Casey Meyers, Levi Cottrell, Alyssa Mathis, Gary Hultman and the Indus Bluegrass Club, comprised of Nathan Lewis, Dianne Tillman, Arryn Swartz, Corinne Dahl, Jace Nelson, Maggie Morgan, Soren Olesen and Maria Lewis.
Accompanists included Judith Nelson, Gary Hultman, Soren Olesen, Stephannie Schiro, Natalie Sorum and Wade Sutton.
