Indus School Report

How much do you know about Minnesota? Shane Swang’s sixth grade class just found out a whole lot more about Minnesota — not only the past, but also the present.

The sixth grade class took a trip down to Pine City and Minneapolis May 17 and 18 to learn more about the history and legislation of Minnesota.

To be eligible to attend the trip each student had to complete a booklet about the history of Minnesota. The booklet included essays and coloring pages about things specific to Minnesota. Students were required to finish a collage about Minnesota. They also had to have all of their assignments in and have passing grades in their classes.

The class left International Falls at 7 a.m. May 17 to head for the Northwest Company Fur Post in Pine City. When they arrived, they went on tours where the workers reenacted life in the early days of the United States.

From there they went to their hotel in Moundsview and enjoyed a night of bowling, swimming, and pizza.

The next day, the class headed out to the Minnesota History Museum. They explored the museum and found out lots of information.

Then, it was off to the State Capitol. Here, the class received a tour of the Capitol and stood on the roof which holds the golden horses. They had the opportunity to eat lunch on the lawn in front of the Capitol before they left, having experienced many aspects of Minnesota history.
