FHS graduates the Class of 2010

It’s one of life’s exhilarating moments — those first minutes when the class song hits a crescendo and the graduation caps go flying. Emotions surge and reality hits.

That moment was celebrated with tears, smiles and embraces inside a packed Falls High School Sunday as the song “It’s Our Time” filled the gymnasium following the graduation ceremony of the Class of 2010.

It had taken less than 45 minutes to complete the purple-and-gold-imbued ceremony which would walk 97 (of 99) commencing graduates and would conclude 13 years of learning.

In his welcome following the singing of the national anthem by graduate chorus students, interim Superintendent Kevin Grover told the body of students their diploma was something that no one could take away from them. But as significant as that piece of paper is, he continued, it’s just the beginning of a journey, a chapter in the book of life with more incredible chapters to follow. “... Be prepared and be persistent ...,” said Grover. “Hold your head high as you now present this district and this community as graduates of Falls High School.”

Class president and valedictorian Britni Hendrickson told her fellow classmates that although the class was split much of the year because half of it attended Rainy River Community College, “today we are united.” Class of 2010 salutatorian Eric Christenson also spoke.

The Dr. Seuss of its childhood revisited the Class of 2010 at the commencement, when student council members Stella Fredrickson and Garrett MacKay read “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” The work was Seuss’ last book before his death, and includes perhaps its best-known line, “Will you succeed? Yes, you will indeed. (98 3/4% guaranteed.)” The poem cheerfully concludes with an opening ending.

Newly hired Superintendent Jeffrey Peura begins his service to District 361 on July 1.
