A panel of teacher judges interviewed students on their projects

Indus School Report

Ninth graders participated in a National History Day competition March 2. Winning exhibits were “Minnesota Miracle” by Nathan Lewis, “Nuclear Drama” by Sammi Hervey and “Taconite” by Ted Nelson.

Even though it is a national history event, each student in Corinne Anderson’s history class prepared an exhibit showcasing some aspect of Minnesota history. All students completed research and analysis and displayed their findings on exhibit boards. A panel of teacher judges then interviewed them on their projects.

The theme for the competition and exhibits is “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History.”  Earlier in the year, students went to the Twin Cities to research their exhibits in preparation for this competition.

Students whose exhibits scored highest in the school competition will move on to the second stage which is the regional competition March 19 in Bagley. The regional competition can include as many students as Indus wants to send, but depends upon who the judges think should represent the school with their work.

The last stage of the National History Day competition is the state competition which is at the University of Minnesota in May. Those who will go to the state competition will be determined at the regional competition.
