Independent School District 361’s Parent Involvement Committee is hosting another “Reindeer Run” 1 kilometer and 5 kilometer run and walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. Christmas Eve to raise money to supply the Falls’ public elementary schools.

The PIC also announced the kick off of its Wishing Willow program, which helps support classroom activities, according to the PIC.

Proceeds from the Reindeer Run will benefit the new effort. The Reindeer Run costs $5 for children in the 1K; and $5 for the 5K and up to $20 per family until Friday. Late registration for the 5K, which starts a half hour after the 1K, is $10.

“When funds run short for supplies, school staff often use personal funds... or go without,” according to a Wishing Willow flyer.

The list of materials constantly needed throughout the school year by teachers is long, ranging from books and glue sticks to mittens and Kleenex.

The Reindeer Run will be held at Falls Elementary School with additional contests for ugliest sweater, most festive, best elf and jingliest. Participants, volunteers and supporters also are asked to get into the holiday spirit by wearing Santa hats, jingle bells and elf ears.

The route begins at Falls Elementary School, 1414 14th Ave., through the Stenberg Addition, east to Seventh Avenue, north to Seventh Street, west to 13th Avenue, north to Ninth Street and back to the school via 11th Street and 15th Avenue.
