The International Falls School Board on Monday is expected to receive new additions to the district’s graduation policy at its regular meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Falls High School cafeteria.

The board is expected to review the new policy, which will be up for discussion and action at September’s regular meeting.

Superintendent Nordy Nelson told The Journal the board will receive the finalized revisions that have been in the works for the past two to three years.

Changes include the number of credits needed to graduate, and a requirement that a student must be enrolled in the district for the entirety of their junior and senior years in high school in order to graduate. It also includes language about home schooling.

“If someone is home schooled and wants an International Falls diploma, there will be certain criteria they have to meet,” Nelson explained.

Several routine items are scheduled for action at the meeting.

The board is expected to adopt an election-year resolution to call the school district general election in November.

On the ballot for three at-large school board seats are Gordy Dault, Harley Droba, Michelle Hebner, Mike Holden, Mark Lassila and Stuart Nordquist.

In personnel items, the board is expected to hire Rachel Amdahl as a part-time community education director. In addition, the board is expected to act on the proposal of creating a community education enrichment coordinator position for the 2012-13 school year.

The board is expected to accept the resignation of Richard Anderson, bus driver; Shawn Bowles, educational support professional; and Kyra Briggs, educational support professional.

New Falls Elementary and West End Elementary Schools principal Melissa Tate is scheduled to give an administrative report along with Tim Everson, Falls High School principal. The board approved the hire of Tate at the August special meeting.

In the superintendent report, Nelson is expected to give an update on the Falls High School swimming pool closure, and discuss the idea of casual substitutes for all areas.
