Falls Elementary School grades 3 through 6 recently participated in a reading incentive, Reach for the Stars! Children collected pledges and agreed to read at least 300 minutes over 14 days. Thirty two students took part and read for a total of 19,134 minutes (318.9 hours) and collected $2,853.94 in pledges. The program was sponsored by Falls Elementary School library as a fund raiser. Children received 50 percent of their pledges to choose books for a total of $1,371.00. The library received 20 percent of remaining pledges in books for the library totaling $570 and the remaining $918 in cash to purchase class sets of books and books from other sources. Organizers report they hope to make this an annual event including grades 1 through 8.
