Bruce Wilson took his two sons, Hunter, 9, and Gavin, 7, to an event in Eagan, “Feed My Starving Children.”
We watched a video about all the people around the world starving. there was a boy that was 14 months and weighed only 19 pounds. The doctor said he was going to die, but once he started eating the package food for a month, he turned around and started to gain weight and now he is a healthy growing boy, who will live.
Another boy was 8 years old and he only weighed 19 pounds. In one month after eating the packaged meals he was gaining weight and weighed 73 pounds.
For safety we had to wear hair nets while packaging the meals. We labeled many bags before we started. Each bag we filled with chicken flavor powder, dried vegetables, soy and rice. Before sealing we had to weigh it to make sure it wasn’t over 400 grams. If it was we then had to take out some rice and weight it again. It had to be between 75 grams and not to exceed 400 grams. Then we could seal it. They were then placed in a box of 36 and secured. Then it was sent to the warehouse until it was picked up to be shipped around the world.
Gavin and I each packed 8,000 meals that are enough to feed 23 children for a year. It took three hours of service. We can now put this towards our merits or badges for scouts. I (Hunter) will be a Webelo this fall and my brother (Gavin) will be a Wolf in scouts.
From this experience we learned how to help and save the many young children around the world. To learn more about this even you may go to www.fmsc.org.
They are always looking for volunteers.
