Mike Hanson announced Saturday that he will not seek reelection to the Commissioner District 5 seat.
Hanson has served as the District 5 commissioner since 1997.
“It comes with definite misgivings but I have chosen not to seek reelection to the County commissioner seat in Koochiching District 5,” Hanson said in a statement to The Journal.
“The privilege to represent the folks in Koochiching has been the most wonderful adventure of my life, a terrific education and an opportunity to make a difference that seldom arises,” said Hanson. “I want to thank everyone for their support and I am proud of the stability that Koochiching currently enjoys that is really reflective on our great staff. I will offer my assistance to the county board and new commissioner in the transition. Personally I am not ready to retire at this time and will be seeking new opportunities and challenges.”
