Tuesday’s primary elections determined who would move forward to the ballot at November’s general elections for various offices.
Voter turnout in Koochiching County was more than double the statewide turnout. Of the registered voters in the county, approximately 24 percent voted in the primary elections.
Statewide, Secretary of State Mark Ritchie estimates that 9 percent of eligible voters in the state turned out for the primary elections.
In the Koochiching County Commissioner District 5 race, Linda Dreher and Wayne Skoe will move forward. Skoe received the most votes at 52.45 percent, followed by Dreher at 22.39 percent.
Below are tallies of how each candidate fared in the county commissioner district 5 race:
• Linda Dreher — 105 votes
• Karin Elhard — 90 votes
• Chris Pfeifer — 20 votes
• Wayne Skoe — 246 votes
• Louis E. Slapnicker — 8 votes
In the race for the state’s U.S. Senator, Stephen Williams of the Independence Party, Kurt Bills of the Republican Party, and Amy Klobuchar of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party will move on to the November general elections.
The county votes were similar to the total statewide votes. In local votes, the most support was for Stephen Williams, Independence party; David Carlson, Republican party; and Amy Klobuchar, DFL party.

In the U.S. Representative District 8 race, Republican Chip Cravaack and DFL candidate Richard Nolan will move forward to the November ballot.
Koochiching County voted similarly with both those candidates receiving the most votes.

In judicial races, incumbent Lorie Skjerven Gildea and Dan Griffith of International Falls will move on in the race for chief justice of the Supreme Court. Koochiching County voted considerably higher for Griffith in the judicial race.
