Generations of Christmas melodies will be explored and shared at 7 p.m. Saturday during Tuesday Musicale’s “Christmas Then and Now” event at Backus Community Center.
According to Erin Lundin, one of the event’s organizers, the evening will feature Christmas music from the past into “the pop holiday music heard today.”
“Before each song, history of that piece will be shared,” Lundin told The Journal.
Last year, the musical group debuted a Christmas program that Lundin said “went over really well.”
This year, she continued, the program will be “along the same lines,” but offer different music and see more involvement from area students.
“We’re also using some of the area’s music teachers,” she noted.
Tamara Koenig, the new Falls High School choir director, will make her first community appearance during the program and Littlefork Medical Center CEO Kimberly Perkins will also perform.
“Those are only two names on the program,” Lundin said of Koenig and Perkins. “We have over 40 musicians and vocalists lined up to perform.”
The program will pose as one of this year’s main fundraisers for Tuesday Musicale’s annual scholarship awards, Lundin added. Each year, the group presents scholarships to area music students to attend a music camp during the summer.
“This fundraiser helps us send kids to camp,” she explained. “It is such a valuable experience for them.”
Lundin said different levels of talent and abilities will be shared to make the evening an experience for the entire family.
“We encourage families to attend,” she said. “We don’t have a dollar amount in mind for a goal, but we do hope to fill every seat.”
Backus Executive Director Ward Merrill will narrate the evening’s festivities, said Lundin, who is also in the lineup of performers.
“It’ll be a great evening with wonderful music,” she said.
Tickets to the show are available at City Drug and the Backus office. Admission is $5 for adults and students. Children ages 5 and under are free.
