Hard Travelin’ with Woody, a solo show with music written and performed by actor/playwright Randy Noojin, will make its way to the Backus Community Center auditorium at 7 p.m. Nov. 7.
According to a release, Hard Travelin’ with Woody began its national tour soon after it became a critical hit at its premiere at FringeNYC 2011.
Noojin’s show channels folk singer, activist Woody Guthrie, who is playing for a union meeting of striking mine workers in 1940. The show is packed with Woody’s wit, humor and more than a dozen of his greatest songs.
The Huffington Post says, “Noojin delivers one of the delights of the fest … captures the spirit of Woody … solid, entertaining work that should travel far and wide in these hard times, just like Guthrie himself.”
Noojin has acted in hundreds of plays regionally and has appeared on several television programs. He has also played Hank Williams in numerous productions.
Admission for the Nov. 7 show, which is part of the Backus Concert Series, is $12 for adults; $6 for students; and $25 for families. Tickets are available in advance at City Drug and Betty’s in Fort Frances. They will also be available at the door the night of the performance.
Backus will host a pre-concert “Top the Tater” dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6.
In addition to the Nov. 7 show, Noojin will also conduct outreach programs in schools around Koochiching County during the week.
