A summer music festival is on the search for talent in Borderland.
The inaugural Harmony of Nations Music Festival is seeking local musicians to perform at the July 18-19 event in Fort Frances.
The festival aims to unite artists and audiences from First Nation, Métis, Canadian and American communities in two evenings of musical entertainment.
Due to a limitation of space, any interested musicians are asked to submit materials into the festival’s audition process. Individuals and/or groups who reflect the First Nation, Métis, Canadian and American cultures in the area are encouraged to enter. Applicants are required to submit the following audition material, along with their name, address and phone number:
- One original or innovative song
- One song of musician’s choice
Songs should be submitted as Youtube links via email to staff@golocalfortfrances.com. The deadline is May 14.
A release said this could be a great opportunity for aspiring musicians to play alongside established musicians on the Fort Frances waterfront.
Headliner
Canadian icon Buffy Sainte-Marie will headline the festival’s July 19 evening performances. With a long list of honors, awards and medals, a release said Saint-Marie is "the ideal artist to conclude two days of high-quality music and culture."
In addition, the release said Harmony of Nations organizers are pleased Sainte-Marie will be giving an afternoon talk at the festival about her recently-released bio-documentary, "Buffy Sainte-Marie: A Multimedia Life." The talk will trace her experiences in her career and give audiences a glimpse into her life and work.
"I think Fort Frances should be very honored that Buffy Sainte-Marie is playing at our festival as she is such an icon in Canada,” local singer-songwriter Larissa Desrosiers said in a release. “I think she will grace our stage with her wisdom and talent. I would hate to see anyone miss this huge opportunity of experiencing Buffy Sainte-Marie."
