The opera is only a bus ride away.
Northern Lights Music Festival, Music on the Iron Range, is presenting the opera “Carmen” by Bizet, at 3 p.m. July 13 at Chisholm High School. Backus Community Center officials are chartering a bus to the opera and encourage the local community to attend.
The cost is $80 per person, and includes round-trip transportation, buffet lunch at Valentini’s Supper Club, a pre-show lecture by Minnesota Public Radio host John Birge, and ticket to the opera. The bus departs Backus at 9:30 a.m. July 13 and returns following the performance.
Reservations are required by calling Backus at 285-7225 no later than June 30.
“Carmen,” directed by Benjamin Spierman with Gavriel Heine of St. Petersburg’s Marlinsky Theatre as musical conductor, stars Janara Kellerman in the title role.
