It was a winning weekend for several International Falls Figure Skating Club skaters in Moorhead at the 17th Annual Red River Valley Figure Skating Classic.
Three club members – Paige Wold, Madison Foss and Pacey Rousseau – took home the top three prizes in a highly-anticipated event by club members.
According to a release issued by the club, 22 individuals skaters and the beginner-level synchro team traveled to Moorhead for the competition over the weekend.
Skaters competed in different events at different levels against 22 other clubs from Minnesota and North Dakota.
The most highly anticipated event, the release continued, is the artistic finals, which is in memory of long time Fargo-Moorhead skating enthusiast, Archie Vraa. Vraa's family along with the Red River Valley Figure Skating Club, conducts a final round in the artistic event with cash scholarships awarded to the top three finishers. To advance to the finals, skaters must place in the top two of their respective competition events. This year, there were about 80 skaters who qualified for a chance to skate in the final round, the release said.
IFFSC members Wold, Foss, Rousseau, Jana Hendrickson, Emma Johnson and Morgan Hedlund all qualified for the final round. The six skaters advanced to the final round along with 14 other skaters from other clubs.
Wold came in first, followed by Foss in second and Rousseau in third. Hedlund finished in sixth place, Johnson in seventh and Hendrickson in 18th place.
