A screen in the auditorium of the Backus Community Center will light up at 7 p.m. Thursday during the running of the third annual On the Edge Film Festival.

According to Diane Adams, International Falls Public Library, this year’s festival will feature four official entries: two 60-minute films and two short films that run 10 minutes or less.

The full-length films include “Fools Never Grow Old,” directed by Salamo Manetti-Lax and follows the end of Martin Lax’s life through his daily routines and stories from his past.

“My Name was Bette: the Life and Death of an Alcoholic,” directed by Sherri Vanden Akker, is a moving, yet shocking documentary about women’s alcoholism, Adams said.

The two short films include “The Wedding Speech,” directed by Tony McNamara, which recounts the blossoming of human and canine relationships.

“First Words,” directed by Fabien Melanson, is about a bilingual family determining which language the baby’s first word will be spoken in.

Adams said audience members will be voting for the best feature length and best short film of the evening.

As a finale to the evening, a student production by Rachel Adams, a recent Falls High School graduate, will be shown.

Admission for the event is $2, plus a non-perishable food item for the Falls Hunger Coalition.
