After a two-month lull in the Kids and Company shows held in Fort Frances, entertainment is returning to the Townshend Theatre at 6:30 p.m. Monday, as Precision Drummers Squid takes the stage.
According to the group's website, Precision Drummers Squid was founded in 2000 by an award-winning group of snare drummers from the Dartmouth Pipe Band Association – a non-profit organization operating a school of piping and drumming in Nova Scotia. Precision Drummers Squid had been selected for a musical tribute entitled “DRUM!,” which debuted at a media conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
With a complement of eight dancers, one bagpiper and a house band, the response from the international audience was nothing short of legendary, the site said. The event gave the group the realization that precision drumming was something that held mass appeal, and seven of the drummers decided to form their own drum corps. The first official performance for the newly-conceived Precision Drummers Squid was at the Halifax Drumfest in 2000. Word of Squid’s unique precision drumming quickly spread and international performances soon followed.
After five years of performing for audiences around the world, Squid produced and launched their debut theater production, “SQUID: The Evolution,” a show that is both musically and visually stunning, according to the site.
The Evolution was deemed a success and received standing ovations and rave reviews, the site continued. Squid currently performs all over North America in festivals of all varieties, school assemblies, corporate settings and musical theater performances.
For those who do not have a season pass to the Kids and Company shows, tickets to Monday's performance are $10 and are available at the Fort Frances Public Library, Betty's, Revco Carpet, The Coffee Landing and at the door. Children under the age of 3 get in free.
