The “old art room” at Backus Community Center is full of activity as members of the Northland Art Society plan a “Starving Artists Sale” Friday and Saturday.
The sale, which will run Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, will be located at 1930 Fifth Ave. in the Falls.
The sale will feature paintings, pottery, fused glassware, jewelry, wind chimes and many other works of art.
According to a release, members of the Northland Art Society have for more than 10 years, been creating their owns works of art as well as helping others.
“People with creative minds are always thinking up new ideas of things they want to make,” a release said. “We have been making so many lovely things that now we need to sell some to make room so we can make more. The art room is also our gallery.”
“We live in such a fabulous area with great pine forests and nothing is better than Rainy Lake,” the release stated. “We try to capture that beauty in our artwork, paintings and pottery. We also want our children to learn and to appreciate art, to be able to create and to expand their horizons.”
In the past few years, the group has acquired two kilns and a pottery wheel and have been making ceramic vases, sculptures, mosaics and “many other beautiful and useful wares.”
