A renaissance era-inspired event will make its way to Backus Community Center April 5.
A Royal Medieval Feast will be served at 6 p.m. with a social hour beginning at 5 p.m.
The first-time event is the brainchild of Robin Bjorkquist, Backus event coordinator, who has attended similar events in other communities.
“The renaissance theme is something you can do from year-to-year with different entertainment and different food choices, but the medieval fun remains the same,” she said. The event replaces longtime Backus events A Chocolate Affair and the Ethnic Food Festival.
In addition to the feast, a release said the evening will be filled with renaissance-themed entertainment performed by the Borealis Bards Theatre Troupe.
The Borealis Bards is a community theater group that started in November by Beth Lowthian. The Royal Medieval Feast will be the group’s first performance.
“It’s also a great first project for the Bards to get their feet wet,” Bjorkquist said of the event.
To add some fun to the evening, Backus will seek a king and queen for the evening. One couple, drawn from event tickets, will receive a dinner and two free beverages “fit for a king and queen,” the release said. The “royalty” will be waited upon throughout the evening by “servants.”
Tickets will be sold in different categories: royal court – $50/per person; baron/baroness – $40/per person; villager – $30/per person; peasant – $10/per person. Tickets are available at the Backus office or online at www.backusab.org. Tickets in each category are limited, only 10 tickets will be sold for a chance to be king and queen.
The release said those who purchase royal court and baron/baroness tickets will be served their dinner, however, villagers and peasants will “go fetch their own food from the kitchen window.”
Proceeds from the event will go back to Backus Community Center. Costumes are welcome but not required. For more information, visit www.backusab.org or call Bjorkquist at 285-7225.
