Kevin Kling and Dan Chouinard will visit International Falls May 2 at the Backus Community Center during their Walkin’ Shoes Tour, according to a release from Minnesota Public Radio.
Full of humor, music and surprises, Walkin’ Shoes brings together Kling, one of Minnesota’s most significant storytellers, and Chouinard, accordionist, pianist and writer, for tales from the roads they’ve traveled, the release says. Throughout their journeys, Kling and Chouinard kindly rely on the strangeness of others to inspire stories and songs.
Kling, who is in his third year of a three-year stint as MPR’s Artist-In-Residence, will also participate in an educational workshop at the Falls High School while in town.
About Kevin Kling
Kling is a well-known playwright and storyteller. His plays and adaptations have been performed around the world. He may be best known for his popular commentaries on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and his storytelling stage shows like Tales from the Charred Underbelly of the Yule Log, which deliver hilarious, often tender stories, the release said. Kling’s autobiographical tales are as enchanting as they are true to life: hopping freight trains, getting hit by lightning, performing his banned play in Czechoslovakia, growing up in Minnesota, and eating things before knowing what they are.
About Dan Chouinard
Pianist, accordionist and occasional storyteller Chouinard is a Minneapolis native who plays, tours and records regularly with an ever-expanding roster of musicians and writers. Chouinard regularly creates special programs which blend storytelling, interview and music, many of these for Minnesota Public Radio, including “Cafe Europa” and “Mambo Italiano,” which have been aired on Twin Cities public television and broadcast statewide on MPR, the release said, as have his frequent radio collaborations with Ann Reed, Peter Ostroushko and Patricia Hampl. He has performed on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor and was rehearsal accompanist on the movie set of the Robert Altman-directed movie, “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Tickets for the 7 p.m. May 2 show are $12 for adults; $10 for MPR members; $6 for students; and $25 for families. For more information on how to purchase tickets, call Backus at 285-7225.
During the show’s intermission, there will be a meet-and-greet reception with Kling and another with Chouinard following the performance.
