There is a lot going on in the superhero world right now, whether it is in the Marvel or Detective Comics universes. DC is now testing the beta version of its new game “Infinite Crisis”, an online multiplayer game in which all of its heroes and heroines must fight against different versions of themselves from different universes. The game is supposed to be released later this year, and will be free-to-play. The application for the beta version only requires your e-mail address, date of birth, and the answers to a few simple questions. Marvel has released their own online multiplayer game, “Marvel Heroes”, which is also free to play. The game’s release was delayed for a few days, leaving gamers waiting. In this game, players choose their favorite Marvel hero or villain, and play in a storyline along with other players. The game features multiple Marvel locations, and deep missions which take you into the heart of the Marvel Universe. You can play online now and create an account at www.marvelheroes.com.
Another DC game is coming out this year, this one about The Dark Knight. “Batman: Arkham Origins” is going to come out on Oct. 25, and will be the third, and possibly last, game in the Arkham series. Since Joker, Batman’s arch nemesis, met his end in the last game, this story will be a prequel to the other two games. The new villains arriving in this game will be crime lord Black Mask, Anarky, and assassins Deadshot and Deathstroke. The game will also be reusing other villains from past games such as The Penguin, The Joker, and Bane. Since the game’s release date is before both the PS4 and Xbox One, they will come out on the current generations of consoles, and possibly launch next-gen versions when the new consoles hit the shelves.
The new movie about DC’s Superman, “Man of Steel”, has set records in the box office. It has made history as the largest June opening movie of all time, beating Pixar’s “Toy Story 3”. The film has tried to reinvent superman the best that it can in ways like removing the red ‘underwear’ on the outside of his costume, and going into a deep background on how the hero came to Earth from his destroyed home world of Krypton. The movie also changes Superman’s childhood from being a superstar high school football player to an outcast who is struggling with controlling his strange powers. This is a risky revival of the beloved hero after the failed movie “Superman Returns”. This time however, the film is receiving positive reviews, and is still making record profits.
Marvel is continuing its series of after-Avengers films by releasing “Thor: The Dark World” on Nov. 8 of this year. In this film The God of Thunder must save Earth along with everything in the universe from a dark force which threatens to destroy it all. This will be the second after-Avenger movie, following “Iron Man 3”. Then “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will be released next year, and will be the final Marvel movie before their next Avengers film, which is set to be released in 2015.
