Gov. Mark Dayton signed legislation on April 2 that continues the reforms and streamlining of the environmental review and permitting process at state agencies.

The bill was one of the top priorities for the Minnesota Chamber Federation this year. The International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is a member of the Federation, representing 39 local chambers of commerce along with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce committed to strengthening the Minnesota business environment.

“This bill builds on our successes achieved last year at the Legislature,” said David Olson, Minnesota Chamber president. “We appreciate the support and commitment of the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. This legislation will help businesses grow and expand and still protect our valuable natural resources.

Olson also thanked the chief authors of the legislation, Rep. Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, and Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria. The bill received bipartisan support.

The bill takes steps to increase efficiency in permitting systems at the Pollution Control Agency and Department of Natural Resources by streamlining processes and eliminating duplication. It also gives project proposers additional options as they submit applications.

The Minnesota Chamber is the state’s premier business advocacy organization, representing more than 2,300 businesses of all types and sizes on state public policy and regulatory issues.
