Teresa Ness of Jameson Addition reported that at about 2 p.m. Sunday, her husband, Bruce heard and then saw four gulls on Rainy River in front of their home. That marks the first reporting of this traditional sign of spring, and the report is nearly one week earlier than their usual first appearance on St. Patrick’s Day. Meanwhile, Borderland folklore calls for three more snow storms after the first gulls return.
