For homes in need of repairs, the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development can help. Rural Development representatives will be available to explain the program and assist with applications Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the basement conference room at the Koochiching County Courthouse.

Grant funds are available statewide for very-low income homeowners for home repairs to correct or remove existing health, safety, sanitary and accessibility issues. Grants up to $7,500 may be available to eligible households. This program is available to eligible elderly homeowners age 62 and older living in rural areas and small towns.

To be eligible for a grant, the repairs must be for an eligible purpose. Applicants must own and occupy their home, and the household budget must show no repayment ability for a loan. A household asset limit of $20,000 is also enforced.
