The Indus Winter Holiday Concert took place Dec. 13 in the school commons, conducted by first-year music teacher, Kristine Schuldt.
The program began with a vocal solo by sixth-grader Maggie Morgan, “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” and was followed by “Prelude: The First Noel,” done by a clarinet quintet of Alyssa Mathis, Hayley Gaetzke, Kerry Ann Meyers and Brianna Smuda.
Kindergarten, first and second grades then headed on stage and sang “Jingle Bells” and “The Snowman.” Third and fourth grade sang, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Nuttin’ for Christmas.” Fifth and sixth grades sang two tunes, “Holly Jolly Christmas” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
Between sets, students performed interlude music. The first performance was “Candlelight by Maccabeats,” featuring Stevie Martineau and Tiana Carlin with a vocal duet accompanied by dancers Annie Schiro and Danielle Erickson. Additional interlude music was provided by Kyle Schiro with a saxophone solo, Ana Noyes with a vocal solo, Tiana Carlin with a piano solo, and a clarinet duet by Annie Schiro and Danielle Erickson.
During a short intermission between elementary and high school performances, the winner of the School Store/Student Council raffle was announced — Rachel Martineau. Principal Bryan Brown also announced the winners of the door decorating contests. Elementary: first place, kindergarten (Miranda Gustafson; runner-up, third grade (Kim Brown). High School: first place, art (Lisa Simon); runner-up, special education (Jenny Taylor).
The Indus High School Band and Choir then performed a variety of songs, including “Many Christmas Greetings,” “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Classical Salute,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Yonder Come Day,” “Patapan,” “A Bit of Holiday Cheer” and “Silent Night.” Maria Lewis accompanied the choir on “Patapan,” along with Cole Story and Jace Keeney on hand drums.
The choir turned down the lights for the last song and stood in the aisles with battery-operated candles to create a nice ambiance for the season.
Accompanists for the event included Jan Imes and Maria Lewis.
