The following people have been sentenced for aggravated misdemeanor or felony crimes in Koochiching County District Court.
• Richard B. Vanhale, 53, International Falls, was sentenced May 7 for felony second-degree criminal sexual conduct — victim less than age 13, and for gross misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct — non-consensual sexual contact.
On the felony, he received a stay of adjudication and was placed on four years supervised probation. He was ordered to supply a DNA sample to the state and follow the recommendations of an evaluation. He must pay restitution and may have no contact with the victim.
On the gross misdemeanor, he was sentenced to 90 days jail and $1,095 fine and fees. The jail time and $500 was stayed on court conditions. He was placed on four years supervised probation and ordered to complete evaluations and assessments, have no contact with people less than age 18 and no contact with the victim, and he must submit to random tests and searches. He may not possess sexually explicit material or use social network sites. He may not use or possess alcohol or drugs and may not enter places where it is being used or sold.
• April L. Steele, 30, International Falls, was sentenced June 4 for gross misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
She was sentenced to one year jail and $3,000 fine. The fine and all but 120 days of the jail time were stayed on court conditions. She was placed on three years supervised probation and ordered to serve 80 hours community work service. She may not consume or possess alcohol or drugs and enter places where it is being used or sold. She must submit to random testing and searches and must follow the recommendation of assessments and evaluations.
• Larry W. Samuelson, 55, International Falls, was sentenced June 4 for gross misdemeanor obstructing the legal process — interfere with a police officer.
He was given a stay of imposition of sentence and sentenced to one year jail and $3,150 fine and fees. All but three days of the jail time and $200 was stayed on court conditions.
He was placed on one year supervised probation and ordered to follow the recommendations of an evaluation.
• Jason D. Johnson, 33, Littlefork, was sentenced June 4 for gross misdemeanor game and fish violation — take/transport/possess pine marten, otter, etc.
He was sentenced to one year jail and ordered to pay $345 fine and fees. The jail time was stayed on court conditions and he was placed on three years supervised probation. He was ordered to forfeit the rights to hunt small game or trap for three years. Traps will be forfeited.
