The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board Wednesday certified District 362’s 2010 levy in the amount of $597,334.

The levy figure shows an amount of $21,388 less than the previous year’s levy amount of $618,723, or a 3.46-percent decrease.

Superintendent Fred Seybert reports that there were no questions from the audience at the meeting’s Truth in Taxation hearing.

The board adopted a school bus drop off/pick-up policy at the meeting. In efforts to prevent the bus system from being used as a taxi service, the policy dictates that L-BF students on the transportation list select two pick-up/drop-off locations — their main residences and one alternate location. Students will be required to have written permission on those days when they will be picked up or delivered at the alternative location. In addition, the policy has specifications for guest transportation and other issues regarding bus usage.

The board received information on the selling of timber on three parcels of land owned by the district, which will be done by auction at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 20 at the Big Falls Community Building.

The board also entered into an agreement between Children's Dental Services and Littlefork-Big Falls School District, effective March 1 through Dec. 31, 2010. The non-profit program is known as "Smiles Across Minnesota" and provides services to eligible students in need of dental care.

The board also heard updates on the Minnesota Reading Corps and the Minnesota School Board Association Leadership Conference, which is Jan. 14 and 15.
