The regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 was called to order at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 with 13 members present.
The opening ritual was held, roll call of officers conducted with Irene Anderson, chaplain, pro-tem and Pat DeLapp, conductress, pro-tem.
There were no petitions for membership.
DeLapp reported that membership is at 97.3 percent with some members still outstanding on their dues. Dues are due now and should be sent to her ASAP.
Bingo is planned for Dec. 13 at Good Samaritan Society-International Falls. Volunteers should arrive by 2:15 p.m.
Anderson reported the No-Bake Bake Sale was very successful. Also, recipes are needed for a cookbook the youth activities director is producing for the Junior Girls Unit.
Gently used purses and tote bags are being collected and will be used in a fund raiser at the winter meeting for department. They may be brought to the Jan. 8 meeting and will then be delivered.
The Veterans Snowmobile Appreciation Ride will be Jan. 12. The Auxiliary will provide a pork loin dinner at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 110 people. Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the dinner.
Sunday Bingo Lunches have begun and workers are needed to assist with them.
There are still opportunities to ring bells for the Salvation Army Dec. 22. Contact president Chezick to sign up for a one-hour commitment.
During Ice Box Days, the Auxiliary will participate in several promotions at the Post — a Chili Cook-Off (chili cooks are needed), a Beach Party and Red Solo Cup Day.
During the Army-Navy Game, two tie blankets were raffled with proceeds donated to cancer research.
A “Ride to Heal,” the department commanders project, will take place May 28. It is a classic car rally arriving in International Falls around 3:30 p.m., spending the night and then motoring to Cook the next day. More information will be available at a later date.
Calendars are available for purchase at the Post. Each day has a drawing and a winner of cash. This is a fund raiser from Department of Minnesota VFW.
Listen to the radio for the Christmas greeting from the Post and Auxiliary. We were able to split the cost of the radio ads with the Post.
Door prize was won by Kathy Sikkala.
The meeting concluded at 5:45 p.m. with closing ceremonies.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Post.
Following the meeting, the group carpooled to Lenard’s for a meal. Ornaments were exchanged and members made a monetary donation to the Food Shelf. Later, the group returned to the Post and bagged candy for the Kids’ Christmas Party Dec. 15.
