As Rainy River Community College officials gear up to welcome students to their annual college fair from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, they are excited about a new bar code system offered at the fair.

“Students log on to www.gotomef.com where they enter their personal information and print a bar code for college reps to scan at the fair,” said Barb Fisher, RRCC campus recruiter and marketing director.

Fisher explained that the new system will be more beneficial to students because it will avoid the hassle of writing down personal information, allowing them to spend more time with representatives.

She explained that the system should help representatives, too, and used her own experience she had as she traveled to another college fair Wednesday.

“I loved the system because it really gave the students and me more time to find out about each other,” she said. “Usually we have time for a couple questions and answers and the student spends the rest of their time filling out a card with all their information. It was much more enjoyable and personable with the ability to scan. Several students were really excited to see Rainy River Community College because friends of theirs are currently attending RRCC and love it.”

To create a bar code, students need to visit www.gotomef.com. At the site, they will scroll down to click on RRCC’s fair and enter their name, address, home phone, e-mail, gender, birth date, ethnicity, citizenship, academic interest/intended major, extracurricular activities, year they plan to start college, high school name, high school city, high school graduation year, SAT/ACT scores, and GPA. After completion, students submit their information and their bar code will be available to print it.

Fisher noted there is one glitch in the system for Falls High School students.

“In order for the system to find Falls High School, students need to only enter ‘Falls’ for the school name or the abbreviation ‘Intl Falls’ for the name of the town.”

Regardless of the glitch, Fisher explained that everyone is invited to attend and students should start thinking of questions they want to ask representatives to achieve the best college fair experience they can.
