LEC Staff Report
During May 21-June 3, the International Falls Police Department and the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office will be part of around 400 Minnesota law enforcement agencies, increasing seat belt enforcement efforts in a “Click It or Ticket” campaign. This is also a nationwide effort.
The enforcement marks nearly three years since Minnesota’s primary seat belt law went into effect, meaning everybody must be buckled up in a vehicle, even in the back seat.
Law enforcement officers will stop and ticket unbelted drivers and passengers. Law enforcement officers will be working extra patrols during this time period focusing their efforts on occupant protection. The current local daytime belt use is under 75 percent.
This campaign is geared toward a greater awareness and belt use rate which in turn will help to reduce serious injuries and deaths on our roadways.
