Appointments and designations for 2010 were the mainstay of the January meeting of the Littlefork City Council, which met Thursday.
Joe Boyle was approved as the city’s attorney and The Journal was designated as the official newspaper for Littlefork.
To act in financial matters in the event of City Administrator Mike Fairchild’s absence, Calvin Olson was appointed the deputy clerk treasurer. Councilor Loren Lehman has been appointed as Littlefork’s deputy mayor and will also serve on the Community Education Recreation Commission.
Among many appointments for all of the councilors, newly seated interim council member Kevin Sather will serve the Street and Utilities Committee, the Economic Development Committee and the Koochiching County Development Authority. New interim Councilor Mike Fort will serve the Airport Committee; the Auditing, Budget, and Purchasing Committee; and the Personnel Committee.
In other business, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration mock review for the assessment of city and ambulance compliance has been scheduled for Feb. 23, according to Fairchild. The annual city audit of Littlefork finances is being conducted this week.
Littlefork’s Snow Fun Days are set for Feb. 12 and 13, and the city council approved resolutions regarding insurance coverage for the event as well as usage of some Koochiching County and state roads.
Fairchild reports a bleak month for the Littlefork Municipal Liquor Store, showing a $6,000 decrease in net sales from last December. The year-to-date profit is $30,500.
Fairchild also reported that the specifications for the new ambulance facility were modified at Thursday’s meeting and he will be sending the data to architect Jim Cowgill.
The board approved the 2010 budget for the Littlefork Medical Center, for which Councilor Sandy Heem has been appointed a board director. Littlefork resident Lona Bloomquist was appointed as the LMC at-large board director for a period of five years.
Also approved was compensation insurance for councilors and volunteer workers, a provision for the payment of approximately 50 percent of employment income should a lost-time injury occur while acting on the city’s behalf. Meal per diem rates will see no increase for city employees — remaining at $7.50 for breakfast and lunch, and $15 for an evening meal. Mileage reimbursement rates decreased to 50-cents per mile.
The annual review of Fairchild’s position as city administrator is scheduled for Feb. 11.
Dave Serrano of Arro of the North will be asked to attend the board’s February meeting for a presentation on wetlands consulting.
