A bid for the surface restoration of Littlefork’s water tower was awarded Thursday.

Littlefork city engineer John Mattonen was present when councilors approved a contract with K&W Coatings LLC of Elkader, Iowa, with a bid of $79,500.

The project includes the resurfacing of the interior and exterior tank. The new color scheme for the painting of the tower includes black lettering and orange striping on a white field. The project will be scheduled following the Fourth of July, according to Sonya Pelland of the Littlefork Clerk’s Office.

The bidding process is still open for the construction of Littlefork’s new ambulance facility, adjunct to Littlefork Fire Hall. Bid specification packages are available at City Hall and bids close at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The council approved Expert T Billing Inc. as the new billing service for the Littlefork Ambulance Service, Pelland said.

Delivery of the new Jackpine Savage statue in production by FastCorp, a Wisconsin company, is expected in mid June.

A traffic counter which was placed on Unorganized Township Road 168 is showing low counts, Pelland said, and treating the road with calcium chloride for dust control this summer was discussed by the council.

June 30 is the target date by which city employees have been asked to implement the necessary improvements as required by the city’s mock Occupational Health and Safety Administration inspection, completed in February.

Littlefork’s city-wide cleanup was a big success, Pelland reports, and adds that branches and bagged leaves, if placed along city streets, will continue to be retrieved by city employees for a while longer.

The council approved the hiring of Caleb Kimball as a 40-hour per week summer employee.

The Littlefork Ambulance Service annual meeting has been set for 7 p.m. June 7 at the Littlefork Fire Hall.

The Littlefork Fire Department annual meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 14, also at the Littlefork Fire Hall. The meetings are open to the public.

Mayor Shane Williams was absent from Thursday’s meeting.
