International Falls area residents will have a chance to turn in all types of passport applications Tuesday.
The one-day event will accept renewals, name changes, passport cards and additional visa pages at the Koochiching County Recorder’s Office. With the exception of the one-day event Tuesday, the office only accepts first-time applications throughout the year.
The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the office located at the Koochiching Courthouse, 715 4th St., International Falls.
Representatives from the U.S. Department of State will be on-site to accept applications and answer questions about international travel.
For those interested in a passport card, information will be provided including that the card was introduced in 2008 to provide a less expensive, smaller alternative to the passport book. The card can only be used to re-enter the United States at land border crossings and sea ports-of-entry from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
For travel by air, a passport book is still required.
The cost of a passport card for first-time adult applicants is $55 and for adults with a valid passport book, the cost is $30. For minors under the age of 16, the cost is $40.
Adult passport cards are valid for ten years and minors’ cards are valid for five years.
