Starting line

Those involved with the Arrowhead 135 ultramarathon were able to give back to the International Falls community this week.

As the region braces itself for bitterly cold weather, several athletes from around the world are embracing it.

As it moves into its 15th hour, the Arrowhead 135 ultramarathon that kicked off Monday morning near Kerry Park only has four finishers.

Jorden Wakeley broke a race record finishing in 11 hours and 43 minutes.

As of 9:30 p.m., about 100 racers remained active on the Arrowhead 135 website live tracker and several others had withdrawn from the race due to being tired, cold, sore, or sick, according to Ken Krueger, race director.

Ken's wife and co-director, Jackie, reported other athletes were hanging in there as overnight hours approached.

Racers have 60 hours to reach the finish line at Fortune Bay Resort & Casino near Tower.
