Koochiching County commissioners will meet later in the day Tuesday to accommodate a 6:15 p.m. public hearing on the proposed 2013 budget and tax levy.
The hearing and regular meeting, scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m., will take place in the courthouse boardroom. An agenda is considered tentative until the government body begins the meeting and makes additions or deletions to the proposed agenda.
The board set the proposed 2013 levy in September at a 1.5 percent increase over the amount collected from property owners this year. The increase would collect about $58,500 more from property owners than the levy did year. That means that if no other changes have been made to a property, and all other taxing entities taxed the property the same as this year, many property owners would see no change in property tax caused by the county’s levy in 2013, according to county officials.
During the regular meeting, the board is expected to consider a lobbying service contract that would focus on moving proposed improvements to U.S. Highway 53 forward and to hear a 2012 year-end budget projection report.
At 4:30 p.m., the board is scheduled to hear a November timber auction review and a year-end timber auction summary. In addition, the board is expected to discuss changes in the balsam market and an interim policy.
Approval of the membership of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee is expected at 5 p.m., when the board will also consider road clean up on Highway 71 and County Road 107.
A discussion about the sale of beds at the Northome Nursing Home is scheduled for 5:25 p.m., and at 5:50 p.m., the board is expected to consider a contract with Ron Michaels Consulting through the Community Services Department.
A public comment period, when members of the public may address the board on any topic, is scheduled for 5:55 p.m.
