Koochiching County commissioners are expected to hear about the county’s peat resources from Kurt Johnson of the Natural Resources Research Institute when they meet Tuesday.

The county board meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in courthouse boardroom. An agenda is considered tentative until the government body begins the meeting and makes additions or deletions to the proposed agenda.

The board is scheduled to discuss peat at 11 a.m. Following the peat discussion, commissioners are scheduled to review a list of legislative issues and priorities important to the county.

A public comment period, when members of the public may address the board on any topic, will follow the legislative list discussion.

In other business Tuesday, the board is scheduled to handle Land and Forestry Department business at 9:45 a.m., when it will hear a request to fill a vacant county forest resource manager position.

At 10 a.m., the board is expected to hear request to fill a vacant full-time public health nurse and 0.8 full-time equivalent health educator position. The board is expected to act on a request to increase from 0.8 FTE public health nurse position to full time.

A letter to Gov. Mark Dayton about his order to review the state’s wetland rules is scheduled to be considered at 10:10 a.m.

At 10:40 a.m., a request to fill a part-time secretary in the county attorney’s office is scheduled.

At 10:45 a.m., the board is scheduled to consider renewal of several contracts during Community Service Department business.
