The Littlefork City Council Dec. 20 set its 2013 tax levy at $114,645 – $355 less than what was collected this year.
City Clerk Mike Fairchild told The Journal that during the Truth in Taxation hearing the council set the general fund tax levy at $106,000.
“That is $355 less than last year,” he said.
The decrease, according to Fairchild, is a result of the city doing “some adjustments as far as some transfers go.”
The debt service levy was set at $8,645, and Fairchild said that amount stays the same every year.
Prior to the hearing, the council held its regular meeting and met with Littlefork Medical Center grant writer Amanda Vogel for an update on what she was working on and provided her with possible grants in which the city might be interested.
Fairchild said Vogel has been with LMC for about one month and will write grants for the both the facility and the city of Littlefork.
The council indicated it might want some infrastructure grants written.
In other business, the council gave an update on a speed limit change request, which the Minnesota Department of Transportation has approved, Fairchild said.
The request is to extend the 30mph speed limit further out of city limits going east on Highway 217 toward Ray.
Fairchild said MnDOT must conduct a study and did not have a timeline for when the change would go into effect.
Fairchild reported that a bid advertisement will be submitted to The Journal seeking bids for construction on the off-sale portion of the Littlefork Municipal Liquore Store.
Earlier this month, the city received an insurance dividend check of $6,000, according to Fairchild.
