The Littlefork City Council last week learned the city is in good financial shape.
City Clerk Mike Fairchild reported that Don Zierke, of Miller McDonald Inc., presented the city’s financial statement at last week’s meeting, and overall, Fairchild said, Zierke “gave a favorable report.”
“Municipalities should have about six months of operating capital,” Fairchild told The Journal. “We’ve got eight months to one year.”
He added that each fund operated by the city was under budget.
In other business, Fairchild said a mock burn training session occurred Monday by the city’s fire department to train firefighters.
Fairchild reported the training session was located in a building on the city’s main street between the community building and the liquor store. He said the council was informed the training would provide valuable experience for firefighters, because the building is in the downtown area of Littlefork, where there are “a couple older buildings.”
Also last week, the council was told the city’s leash laws are under the microscope to become “stricter,” Fairchild said.
“We will also be doing research to find out who hasn’t purchased a (pet) license,” he noted.
Renovations are also expected for the liquor store’s bathroom as part of the site’s remodeling process, Fairchild said.
“We’re going to give them a more rustic theme,” he said.
An earlier public meeting to gather community input to help guide liquor store updates generated a lot of comment, Fairchild said Another public session to explain further options for the store is expected soon.
The city is also exploring options for a caretaker at Lofgren Park.
