Littlefork-Big Falls student Sara Antanies played the “Star-Spangled Banner” on her flute for the Class A and Class AA State Hockey Tournament at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul earlier this month. Antanies will attend Concordia College in Moorhead, where she will major in music performance and computer science.

New board members elected at the annual meeting of the Rainy River Saddle Club are Lolita Moone, David Murray, SuAnne Herman and Mattie Pearson. The club also voted to join the Western Saddle Club Association.

The International Falls speech team won nine awards in Walker last Saturday. Don Grinsell came away with a ribbon in Humorous Interpretation. Diane Nuthak won a ribbon in Serious Poetry. Liz Langton won a ribbon with her selection in significant speeches. Original Oratory had one winner from the Falls, Carrie Przybilla. Laura Menefee was the sole Falls winner in Extemporaneous Reading. Lynn Ettestad, Lisa LaFrance, Janet Coulombe and Brad Kukuk were winners in the Serious Prose category. The team was coached by Darrell Schmidt.

Mrs. Lee Grim, home economist and interior designer, arranges reproduction of cloth from the Williamsburg, W. Va., collection sold by Schumacher Fabrics for a display in the Falls Public Library during the Interior Decorating Clinic. The public may view the displays until late this evening, according to Marie Knudson, Falls librarian and general chairman of the three-day clinic.

Final rites will be Monday in Victoriaville, Quebec, for Mrs. J. William (Anna) LaVigne, 69, former Falls resident who passed away unexpectedly Wednesday in a Montreal hospital. Benedict and Bertrand LaVigne of the Falls drove to Winnipeg and flew from there Wednesday morning but reached the bedside of their mother too late. Leaving Thursday from the Falls to attend services were the sons-in-law and daughters: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lepper, Mr. and Mrs. John Gregurich, and Mrs. Benedict LaVigne and Bruno and Benedict LaVigne, sons. Other survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Brindos, and several grandchildren.
