Members of the Second Wind Harmonica Band of Grand Rapids performed at the VFW Post 2948 Home for area seniors. Margarete Kostiuk has been a member of the group for 16 years. The VFW provided transportation to the performance from centers in the area.

Winners of the Falls Junior Golf Tournament were: Scott Lindvall, 13-14 year-olds winner; Joe Fulton, overall winner; and Paul Joslyn, winner of the 10-year-olds age group.
40 YEARS AGO
U.S. Marine Corps Captain Pat Donahue Jr., his wife, Peggy, and their son, Sean, have been visiting here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Donahue Sr., and Borderland friends the past two weeks. Donahue will depart for Okinawa Thursday where he will serve for a year. Donahue has been in the Marines for 9 1/2 years.
50 YEARS AGO
On Aug. 18, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Pickar of Littlefork renewed their marriage vows at a High Mass at St. Columban’s Church on the 50th anniversary of their wedding day. The Pickars have lived in Littlefork nearly all their lives. They have seven children, 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They were fortunate to have their entire family home for the celebration.
60 YEARS AGO
Wayne Judy’s well-known “Merrymaker,” the snowmobile that became a familiar sight on Rainy Lake the four past winters, is written up in the September “Popular Mechanics” magazine, now on the newsstands.
70 YEARS AGO
Registration continued in the servicemen’s room of the Community Building for the nation’s second peacetime draft in history. First to register for the new draft call in International Falls were Leon Strandberg, who spent 36 months in the Army, veteran of the Pacific theater; Howard Hall, 32 months with Army engineers, European theater; and Hedley Ward, 44 months in the Navy, Pacific theater.
