Doug Cassibo, president of the Borderland Alano Club, was recently presented a $500 donation from the International Falls Ruby’s Pantry Benevolence Fund to sustain the club’s operations.
The purpose of the Twelve Steps, according to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, “is to recover from compulsive, out-of-control behaviors and restore manageability and order to your life. It’s a way of seeing that your behavior is only a symptom, a sort of ‘check engine’ light to discovering what’s really going on under the hood.”
The Borderland Alano Club of International Falls is an active / in good standing
Minnesota nonprofit corporation -Domestic — established on March 26, 1996. The club is a community center for addiction services rehabilitating alcoholics, drug abusers and compulsive gamblers, reports Ruby’s Pantry promotion co-coordinator.
Members testify that: “I do love that ‘we’ all have a great sober place to go. It is a Bottom of Formwonderful setting for get-togethers and meetings.” Walk-ins are welcome and the club is good for groups.
The club’s mission statement is: Saving lives one day at a time by providing a safe, chemically tree environment, not exclusive to the recovery community.
Meetings are scheduled at different times daily on Sunday through Saturday. Schedules are posted on The Borderland Alano Club Facebook. The club board meets at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.
The Borderland Alano Club invites those who are in recovery, their family and friends, and members of the community who support the recovery community to become members of the club. Dues are $10 per month and used to support club operations.
Businesses may join the Borderland Alano Club for $100 per year. The yearly dues entitle them to use the club for meetings and events during open scheduling. Those interested in joining should send a request to Borderland Alano Club, 410 Fifth Ave., International Falls, MN.
The donation from the benevolence fund is a result of each Ruby’s Pantry guest who donates $20 USA cash at a Ruby’s Pop-up Pantry food distribution. Each guest donates $2 dollars of the $20 to the International Falls benevolence fund. Upon request, money from the fund is distributed to nonprofit organizations or groups in the greater International Falls area.
Community members that have attended Ruby’s monthly distributions for the past 45 months have donated $25,550 in response to more than 30 requests to the benevolence committee.
Committee guidelines for requesting funds can be obtained by calling Backus Community Center at 285-7225.
The next Ruby’s Pop-up Pantry distribution at the Backus Community Center starts at 5 p.m. May 13.
Anyone who eats qualifies to participate, said Grim.
