Two local organizations received a donation from the International Falls Ruby’s Pantry Benevolence Fund in December.

The Salvation Army and the Koochiching County Senior Center each received $500 from the benevolence committee Tuesday.

Lee Grim, Ruby’s promotion coordinator, presented the donations.

The money for donations by the benevolence fund comes as a result of each Ruby’s Pantry guest that donates $20 at a Ruby’s Pantry food distribution. With each $20 share, $2 is placed in the International Falls Ruby’s Pantry Benevolence Fund. Upon request, money from the fund is distributed to nonprofit organizations or groups in the greater International Falls area.

Community members that have attended Ruby’s monthly distributions have donated more than $17,550 since July 2015 in response to funding requests. About 20 groups have received benevolence funds, with some receiving funding more than once, noted Grim.

Committee guidelines for requesting funds can be obtained by calling Backus Community Center at 285-7225.

The next Ruby’s distribution is at 5 p.m. Jan. 9 at Backus Community Center.

“Anyone who eats qualifies to participate,” reminds Grim.
